On the 8th of March, a group of girls from Macarthur Girls High School were invited to attend an event organised by the AFP. Two girls from this event wrote what they experienced on that day and the different things they learnt.
It was a delightfully bright Saturday morning when we arrived at the Parramatta events centre, situated in the picturesque Parramatta Park. Receiving nametags and being exposed to such a variety of delicious food wasn’t even the highlight - being in the presence of such empowering women was what made the experience truly worthwhile. Socialising with females who come from such respected and powerful backgrounds made us proud not only to be women on a day of such celebration, but made us proud to be representing Macarthur Girls High. Creating valuable connections within our local community is essential in order for our school to thrive and establish itself as the prestigious institution it is, and the International Women’s Day breakfast helped us to do just that.
Many inspiring women were attending this great event, and as representatives of Macarthur Girls High School, we couldn’t feel more proud. The event included a short introduction, getting to know the many wonderful ladies and discussing what organisations and upcoming events. Shortly after some great and delightful food, presentation had begun. It mostly focused on the influence of technology and how in our society, technology and social media can both affect and benefit us, not only as parents, peers, friends, siblings, but also as women in power. Many incidences on social media have impacted our generation and we learnt how we could prevent the negatives, whilst promoting the great positives. The presentation also revealed many new great facts about the changes in the technology over the past century and the involvement of women in these technologies.
The presentation had a great impression on all of us, as it was so relevant to our generation and how WE as a group at Macarthur can improve our social media and technology uses by doing the right thing.
Overall, AFP breakfast morning was an enjoyable experience for not only getting to meet amazing and inspiring women in our community, but also the giving us the opportunity to face new challenges and for all of us to improve our self, peers, family and community, plus our thoughts on technology and the new advanced century.
