MGHS Prefect Cluster

WOW.

What a night it was; a room filled with around 40 seniors from all over Sydney, a hall filled with 40 leaders from Sydney schools, a hall filled with laughter, energy, enthusiasm and excitement!

The evening of Tuesday 20th of May marked one of the most anticipated events that the Prefects and Captains of MGHS have organised so far; our annual Prefect Cluster.

As high school leaders arrived from all across Sydney and entered our colourful and fun-filled school hall, the enthusiasm and excitement was already building! The novelty and carnival-theme games, such as knock-down cans and hula-hoop competitions, gave everyone a chance to meet and greet new people. With tokens and prizes on offer, the friendly competition was peaking!

Soon-after, it was time for trivia, with rounds of the ‘Guess the Song’ and ‘Name the TV Show’, our prefects added a twist to traditional trivia. The category of ‘Leadership’ gave an opportunity for the room of around 40 leaders to really reflect on their individual definitions of what it actually meant. Each individual’s interpretations of characteristics and roles of good leaders were shared and expressed in small groups, with words such as ‘INSPIRE’, ‘COMMITMENT’, ‘VISION’, ‘INFLUENCE’, ‘CHANGE’ and ‘LEAD’ floating around.

Following on this discussion on leadership, there was an opportunity for everyone to share their leadership initiatives with each other. It was very exciting to hear about the great and creative ideas of other schools; the sparks flew as we shared our stories and took inspiration from each other! Our proudest creations, such the Positivetree, International Women’s Day and this very website, were shared to the crowd of leaders to hopefully inspire and spark ideas within them to implement in their own schools! We further invited them to suggest us ways to continue with our anti-bullying [#GIVEUP] challenge, getting strong response continuing much later after the event.

With more socialising and mingling afterwards, the event, undeniably, went off with a BANG! I was excited, energised, inspired and all emotions of happy after the event (to a point where I think only the song ‘Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows’ would describe me at the end of the evening). I’d like to think that this event showed effectively how fun, innovative and exciting the SRC of MGHS is to other schools around Sydney; we felt proud, as a group of seniors, to be able to hold such an amazing event! Lastly, without the help of some very helpful teachers and many others, this event could not have been possible, so many thanks for all your help!

It was an incredible evening, and let me sum it up, again, in one word:

WOW.
