ANZAC Memorial

On Wednesday 9th of April the SRC members from Macarthur Girls High School joined with representatives from other schools to remember the people from the Australian and New Zealand Army Core. We sat around the ANZAC Memorial in Hyde Park and watched the service.

The service was very emotional and beautiful. Schools performed songs, the army was inspected and the descendants of those who fought in the war told stories and diary entries of their ancestors. Each school who had attended placed reefs on the memorial as a sign of respect.

At the end of the service we sang the Australian national anthem and were invited to drop stars that represented the soldiers who died into the Well of Contemplation.

The service held mixed emotions of sadness for our country’s loss and pride for our country's heritage and the opportunity to represent Macarthur Girls High School.

The main message of the day was not to glorify war but to remember all the countless people who have sacrificed their lives over the century for us and our future. Overall, it was an inspiring day and one I will remember.
