SPOTLIGHT: Sports Council

Welcome to our new blog segment; Spotlight where we bring attention to some of our schools’ clubs and leadership groups. In this edition of our Spotlight segment, we’ll be focussing on the Sports Council (SPC), one of the core leadership groups of Macarthur girls. We interviewed the girls of the SPC and asked them a couple of questions.

Q. WHO ARE THE SPORTS COUNCIL?

A. The sports council are a young group of women, a collection of four house representatives from each year, that have a passion for sports, health and leadership (led by Ms. Coop).

Q. WHAT IS THE AIM OF THE SPORTS COUNCIL?

A. The aim of the SPC has far more depth to it than simply encouraging physical activity and being the sporting voice of the school (though those are both encompassed by the role). The Sports Council aims to promote different values including, but not limited to sportsmanship, wellbeing, PRIDE and positivity - all through the medium of sport!

Q. WHAT INITIATIVES DO THE SPC TAKE ON?

A. The SPC have a wide range of initiatives that you might be familiar with.

These include:

  • Footy Colours/ Jersey Mufti Days

  • Swimming Carnival

  • Athletics Carnival

  • Playground initiative/ activities

If you attended the Sport’s Council mystery video screening in the final week of Term 1, you’d have seen that the SPC are planning some interesting stuff for later this year! The SPC have also issued suggestion sheets where students get to put forward their ideas for the SPC. This was a great idea from the SPC to achieve more student input as, ultimately, the Sports Council are representatives of the student body and hearing out and adopting their ideas and concerns are one of the aspects of their role. So, make sure you put forward some of your great ideas and help make the aforementioned qualities more fun and available for the students of Macarthur Girls.

Keep a lookout for more of SPC’s exciting initiatives as the year passes – definitely get involved- and follow our Spotlight segment as we shine a spotlight on some of our school’s groups and clubs.

Keep reading, be kind to one another and stay happy.
